The Admirals claimed their third consecutive D4AAA championship with a stirring double-header sweep over the HVA Hawks on Wednesday. On a cool night at the Ballpark at Farragut, the Admirals got timely hitting and strong pitching to advance to next week’s Region 2AAA tournament. The Admirals will host Knoxville Central on Monday, May 17.
In the first game, Hunter Merrick took the win for Farragut. The senior pitcher threw five strong innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out three and walking one. Evans threw two innings to earn the save out of the bullpen.
Farragut got things moving in the second inning. Eli Evans singled in Brennon Seigler, who had reached third on a throwing error on his grounder.
Farragut socked two home runs on the day. Angus Pence hit a 2-run shot in the fifth inning. Evans hit a solo shot in the fourth inning.
Farragut racked up ten hits on the day. Evans, Lukas Buckner, and Landis Davila each managed multiple hits for Farragut Admirals Varsity.
The nightcap of the double-header was one that will be remembered for a long time around Farragut. The game was tied at two with Farragut batting in the top of the eighth when Tanner Kim hit a blistering solo homer to left-center, reclaiming the Admiral lead after HVA had tied things in the bottom of the sixth. After Eli Evans and Lukas Buckner singles, Landis Davila loaded the bases by reaching on an error. Garrett Brewer sealed the victory with a scorching single in the gap, scoring Evans and Buckner.
Hardin Valley Academy had knotted the game up at two in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Logan Ozias doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.
Angus Pence got the win on the mound for FHS. The pitcher surrendered no runs on one hit over two and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Michael Delph started the game going five excellent innings, allowing no runs on only one hit, striking out six and walking one.
