The Farragut Admirals stormed back to claim victory in their first game of the 2022 Class 4A State Tournament, with an 8-7 victory over the Hendersonville Commandos. The game was started Tuesday night but was suspended in the bottom of the third inning when lightning caused a delay. Later rains resulted in suspension of the game, which resumed Wednesday at 10:00am CDT at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro. The Admirals will play Collierville Tuesday at 5:30 CDT as it’s scheduled now.

After surrendering a run via error to Hendersonville in the first inning, Farragut (27-11-1) knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning, when Garrett Brewer grounded into a double play, but still managed to knock in one run, driving in Jake Merrick, who had singled and advanced to second on an error.

Farragut took the lead for good with four big runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Eli Evans hit a no-doubter grand slam on a 1-2 count, scoring four runs.

Jaxson Pease started the game on Tuesday for Farragut. The pitcher surrendered three runs on two hits over three innings, striking out five. Michael Delph was the winning pitcher, taking the mound when the game resumed on Wednesday, due to pitch count limitations for Pease. The righty allowed four hits and two runs over one and two-thirds innings. Eli Miller and Evans entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Evans recorded the last three outs after 2 Commando runners had scored to earn the save.

Farragut Admirals Varsity socked three home runs on the day. After Eli Evans’s grand slam in the fourth, Jett Johnston launched a moon shot to left-center in the sixth inning. Jake Merrick went back-to-back with his home to left center.

Farragut collected ten hits on the day. Lukas Buckner, Merrick, and Evans each racked up multiple hits. Buckner went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Farragut in hits.
