The Admirals took a big Sectional win over Seymour on Friday night to return to the Spring Fling in Murfreesboro. The Admirals’ 9-2 win sends them to the Class AAA State Tournament for the 18th season since 1999. The Admirals (36-5, D4AAA and R2AAA Champs) have earned 10 State Championships overall, 9 since 1999.
Hunter Merrick pitched the Admirals to the victory, carrying a no-hitter into the 6th inning against a good-hitting Eagle club. Merrick allowed two runs on only 2 hits (both in the 6th inning), and had 8 Ks. Jaxson Pease came on to nail down the win by pitching the 7th inning, surrendering one hit, but had 2 Ks and a flyout to end the game.
Farragut put up five big runs in the fifth on its way to the win. Tanner Kim led off with a double, followed by Hudson Seigler’s single to right. DH Eli Evans drove in Kim with his single to left, and Ellis Gleed (pinch-running for Seigler) moved to second base. Lukas Buckner’s single drove in Gleed and Jack Alley (pinch-running for Evans) advanced to second. After Garrett Brewer’s strikeout, Parker Evans essentially salted the game away with a towering blast over the left-center fence for a 3-run homer. That made the score 7-0, and the Admirals weathered a 6th-inning rally by the Eagles.
Farragut Admirals Varsity got things started in the second inning. Garrett Brewer worked a good at-bat for a walk with the bases loaded, scoring one run. The Admirals added another in the third when Eli Evans drilled an RBI double off the left-field wall, that narrowly missed being a home-run.
Derek McCarley took the loss for Seymour. McCarley went four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and striking out four.
Farragut scattered 11 hits in the game. Buckner, Hudson Seigler, Evans, and Tanner Kim each collected multiple hits. Buckner went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Farragut.
The Admirals will begin play in the State Tournament in Murfreesboro, at either 4:00 or 6:30 CDT, at either Seigel HS or Oakland HS. Check back to this site for updates.
