Jake Merrick went 4-for-4 at the plate, and Jaxson Pease controlled the strike zone as Farragut defeated Karns 11-5 in the Region 2 4A Tournament on Monday. Merrick homered in the second, singled in the third, doubled in the fifth, and singled in the sixth.

Farragut (24-11-1, 8-2 D4 4A) fired up the offense in the first inning, when Garrett Brewer singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

After Karns scored two runs in the top of the fifth, Farragut answered with two of their own. The Admirals then answered when Jack Alley’s sac fly scored one run for Farragut Admirals Varsity and Brennon Seigler singled on the first, scoring Lukas Buckner, who had tripled into the right field corner.

Farragut pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning. Brewer singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Merrick singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Alley singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, and Mark Underwood singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Jaxson Pease earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Farragut. The righty went four and a third innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out six. Stratton Scott threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Admirals walloped two home runs on the day. Jett Johnston hit a mammoth homer onto Kingston Pike in the sixth. Merrick had a dinger in the second inning.

The Admirals racked up 15 hits in the game. Merrick, Brewer, Seigler, and Underwood each racked up multiple hits.

The Admirals will host Powell at 6:30 Wednesday in the Region 2 4A Championship game.
