In a battle of defending State Champions, the Farragut Admirals stole the lead late in the game in a 6-3 victory over Upperman Bees on Thursday.  The Bees are defending Class 3A champions while the Admirals are the defending Class 4A Champions. The game was tied at three with Farragut Admirals batting in the bottom of the sixth when Jett Johnston singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

The game was the opener of the 2023 Scott Dean Memorial Tournament.

Upperman got on the board in the first inning when Tyler Jared drove in the game’s first run on a groundout.

Michael Delph got the start for Farragut Admirals (13-4, 2-2 D4 4A). The pitcher went three innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one. Reid Thomason pitched the 4th and 5 innings, allowing 2H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 3K. Matthew Kilbey earned the win pitching the last 2 innings. He was effective on the mound, allowing only 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K.

Braden Williams was on the mound for Upperman. Williams went five and a third innings, allowing six runs on ten hits, striking out one and walking one.  Caden Colson threw two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen.

Farragut Admirals launched one home run on the day. Landis Davila had a dinger in the fourth inning. Farragut collected 11 hits on the day.  Lukas Buckner, Mark Underwood, Brennon Seigler, and Davila each had multiple hits for Farragut Admirals.  Buckner led Farragut Admirals with three hits in four at bats.
